This painting has a story. I took the photograph, from which this is painted, perhaps 20 years or more ago in, I thought, New Jersey. After completing the painting, I was idly looking Newfoundland up in the gazeteer at the back of the Rand McNally State map to confirm where it is. It was not listed, so I Googled 'Newfoundland Train Station' (which is in NJ as it turns out) and came up with a current picture. The building is now grey with red trim! I also found that a feature film called The Station Agent was filmed there. Accordingly, I ordered the film up from Netflix and was able to see a lot of different shots of the building and it's surroundings. Its a critically acclaimed independent film made in 2003 that you may enjoy and is described on one website as "a little gem."
Tom Lynch Watercolor Workshop
Top American watercolorist and author of several books, Tom Lynch, taught a workshop in Westminster, Denver, CO, May 18-21, which I attended - my second Lynch workshop. Tom is a hardworking teacher who goes to great lengths to deal with his students questions, often on an individual basis, and to ensure their experience is of the highest quality. This workshop was no exception.
